What are the major areas to score higher in CAT Exam

Where and How to focus on CAT Exam

Before working on major areas to score higher in CAT Exam, it is important to understand the CAT Exam details i.e. pattern, subjects, and scoring methodology.

CAT (Common Admission Test) is a national level entrance exam for admission to post graduation in Business Management. Though it is mainly for admission in IIM but also acceptable to other prestigious colleges.
CAT paper pattern:
Now let us consider the CAT paper pattern. There are three sections in the CAT exam namely Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning. In all, there are 100 questions divided among these three sections with 34, 34 and 32 questions respectively. CAT exam is CBT (Computer Based Test).
Scoring:
For raw scoring, every correct answer gives three marks however the wrong answer for objective type questions will give one negative mark. However, for non-objective questions, there is no negative marking for wrong answers. The total duration of the exam is three hours i.e. 60 minutes for each section. Based on the raw score, section wise scaled scores are calculated and then percentile. Percentile means how many candidates are below you.

The verbal reasoning covers English section which is lengthy from a preparation point of view for those who are a week in English. The QA section covers math and numerical ability. Candidates whose math is good, must focus on this section starting from fundamentals. It’s a good scoring section. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning is quite an interesting section. For getting a higher percentile, all the three sections are important. Candidates can focus on their comfortable section more and ensure perfect scoring, but at the same time, other sections should also be prepared well.

Practice makes a man perfect. A scheduled regular preparation of topics of sections will lead to improve scoring. After doing preparation on various subjects of CAT syllabus, students are advised to practice on CAT mock test on a regular basis and should learn and judge their improvement with time. Sabakuch.com also provide mock papers on CAT where first three mock sets are free of charge and then for more sets, one has to pay according to requirements.
